REVEL Robotics is partnering with Japanese machine tool manufacturer Mazak to bring precision CNC machining to its Prague headquarters. With three Mazak machines planned for the facility, the collaboration will support in-house robot component manufacturing and a longer-term ambition: developing robots that can help operate the machines used to build them.

Go behind the scenes of our partnership with Mazak and our vision of robots building robots.

REVEL × Mazak: Robots building robots? A REVEL humanoid robot with the REVEL and Mazak teams in Prague

We're excited to announce our partnership with Mazak, one of Japan's leading manufacturers of CNC machine tools.

The Mazak team recently visited our headquarters in Prague to explore how precision manufacturing and humanoid robotics could work together. The collaboration is an important step in our plans to bring more manufacturing capabilities in-house, accelerate robot development, and explore new possibilities for industrial automation.

And there's an exciting idea behind it: what if robots could help manufacture the parts used to build more robots?

Who Is Mazak?

Founded in Japan in 1919, Yamazaki Mazak Corporation is a global manufacturer of advanced machine tools. Its products include CNC turning centers, machining centers, multi-tasking machines, and manufacturing automation solutions.

CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. These machines use computer-controlled processes to manufacture parts with high precision and repeatability.

With more than a century of experience in machine tool manufacturing, Mazak brings valuable expertise to our work on the next generation of humanoid robots.

Bringing Precision Manufacturing to Prague

One of the most important parts of the partnership is our plan to bring three Mazak CNC machines to REVEL's headquarters in Prague.

We intend to use these machines to manufacture components for our humanoid robots, including mechanical linkages.

These components play an essential role in a robot's mechanical design and movement. As we continue developing our hardware, we regularly need to produce new parts, test them, and refine their designs.

Having CNC manufacturing capabilities at our own facility will help us bring that process closer to our engineering teams.

There are several reasons why this matters:

  • Faster prototyping: Producing new components without relying on an external manufacturing process for every iteration.
  • More opportunities to experiment: Testing different designs and making improvements as our hardware evolves.
  • Closer collaboration: Connecting design, manufacturing, and testing within the same development environment.
  • Greater control over development: Building more of the mechanical components we need at our Prague headquarters.

For a robotics startup, the ability to move quickly between an idea and a physical prototype is particularly valuable.

It's not only about manufacturing parts. It's about making it easier for our engineers to develop better robots.

The Bigger Vision: Robots Building Robots

Beyond bringing CNC manufacturing in-house, the partnership also opens the door to a longer-term ambition.

We're developing humanoid robots for skilled industrial work, and one of the applications we're exploring is CNC machine tending.

The idea is to have REVEL's robots support the operation of Mazak's machines, handling components as part of the manufacturing process.

That creates an interesting connection: Mazak's equipment could manufacture components for our robots, while our robots could eventually help operate that equipment.

It's the idea behind robots building robots.

During the visit, we discussed this vision with the Mazak team and explored how combining humanoid robotics with CNC manufacturing could create opportunities for industrial customers.

This remains a development goal rather than an already operational autonomous manufacturing system, but it's an exciting direction for both companies to explore.

Why This Partnership Matters

Developing humanoid robots isn't only about artificial intelligence, software, or robotic controls.

The physical hardware matters just as much.

Every mechanical component needs to be designed, manufactured, assembled, and tested. Improving those components is a continuous part of our development process.

Our partnership with Mazak connects us with an experienced manufacturing technology company while helping us establish the capabilities needed to support that work internally.

It also supports our broader ambition to develop more of our robotics technology in Europe, bringing hardware development, software, and robot intelligence closer together.

For us, this collaboration is about building a stronger foundation for the work ahead, both in how we develop our own robots and in the industrial applications we want to pursue.

What's Next?

We're looking forward to developing this collaboration with Mazak and continuing to build out our manufacturing capabilities in Prague.

A big thank you to the Mazak team for visiting REVEL and sharing their expertise!

We documented the visit in Building REVEL, Episode 10 (video above), where you can hear more about the partnership, see the components we're planning to manufacture, and get a closer look at our plans.
